Harper Collins to Publish Culture Declares Emergency Letters

August 23, 2019

Emma Thompson, Mark Rylance and Simon McBurney are among the figures contributing to an anthology of letters responding to the global climate crisis that is being published as part of the Culture Declares Emergency movement.

Harper Collins has acquired the rights to publish the letters, penned by members of the arts sector and the wider public as part of the Letters to the Earth project.

Earlier this year, more than 1,000 letters were written by people across the globe and read out live at 52 cultural venues as well as recorded readings by actors including Andrew Scott and Alex Lawther.

Now, Letters to the Earth will be published in book form, in partnership with Culture Declares Emergency. Printed on recycled paper, it will feature a foreword by Thompson, and is co-curated by writer Anna Hope, theatre director Jo McInnes and theatremaker Kay Michael.

All royalties will go towards creative environmental campaigning.
